How We Help

Overview

Salvo serves as a second line of defense for adoptive families navigating the realities of severe post-adoption trauma, including Reactive Attachment Disorder and complex behavioral challenges.

Many families discover that once adoption is finalized, access to specialized support is extremely limited. Insurance often does not cover the care needed. Qualified providers can be difficult to find. Families are left to navigate crisis alone. Salvo exists to walk alongside these families — helping them access resources, advocacy, and financial support when the road forward feels overwhelming.

Who We Serve

Salvo supports adoptive families experiencing significant post-adoption challenges related to trauma, attachment, and behavioral health. This may include families navigating:

  • Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD)
  • Developmental trauma
  • Severe behavioral or safety concerns
  • School challenges and advocacy needs
  • Secondary trauma impacting parents or siblings
  • Situations where out-of-home therapeutic support may be necessary

Every family’s situation is unique. Our goal is to help connect families with appropriate, trauma-informed support and reduce financial barriers to care whenever possible.

What Support Can Look Like

Salvo helps families access and, when possible, fund services such as:

  • Trauma-informed therapy
  • Crisis and safety planning
  • Parent and sibling support
  • School and IEP advocacy
  • Specialized evaluations
  • Respite care
  • Therapeutic placements when necessary
  • Travel or access to qualified providers

Many of these services are not covered by insurance and can quickly become financially overwhelming. Salvo works to bridge that gap so families are not forced to choose between safety and financial stability.

How the Process Works

While every situation is different, support through Salvo generally includes:

  • Initial Contact: Families reach out to share their situation and needs.
  • Conversation & Assessment: We connect to better understand the family’s circumstances, current supports, and immediate concerns.
  • Resource & Support Planning: We help identify trauma-informed resources, providers, or next steps.
  • Financial Assistance (when available): When funding allows, Salvo may provide financial assistance or help families access fundraising or sponsorship support.
  • Ongoing Connection: Salvo's goal is not just to respond to crisis, but to help families find a path forward.

Because needs and funding vary, support is considered on a case-by-case basis.

"Reactive Attachment Disorder exists on a spectrum. In some children, it may appear as difficulty forming trust and secure connection. In others, it can involve profound challenges with safety, regulation, and relationships due to early trauma

and disrupted attachment."
